TAKING SHELTER DOGS FOR A WALK

We currently have over 400 animals in our facility. Almost all of them are adults or adolescent animals; they have to explore the world around and get the zoomies in order to stay fit. There is not enough room in outdoor kennels for that sort of activity, and the dogs that are kept in the same enclosure are not always the best playmates.

That is why our volunteers Alyona, Victor, Igor, and our permanent workers take shelter dogs for walks in our neighbourhood every day. During dog walks, our staff monitors the health, stool and the amount of physical activity of the animals. We teach some dogs to get used to a collar and leash, the other canines need to be trained in how to interact with other dogs and strangers.

On average, we manage to take 20 long walks per day; in addition to that, we release groups of animals from their kennels, thus they can run and interact with each other. We sometimes gather large packs of dogs, and for that purpose, we organised a safe dog walking field on the hill slope.

Look at some of the residents of the shelter taking a walk in the neighbourhood. They look good in these pictures, don’t they?
