“AR IDARDO”, THE ISLE OF DOGS

On June 18, we celebrated the 5th anniversary of our animal shelter for homeless and abandoned dogs.

It used to be a 2-ha plot of wasted land where you could find nothing but thorny blackberry bushes. But now it is a ‘Dog Town’; our animal sanctuary is a residence for about 500 dogs and 30 cats. The first thing you hear after entering the territory is barking and howling. That background noise does not stop for a second, but neither do our daily chores: the shelter workers feed, help and care for animals 24/7.

And we want to show you what we have accomplished so far and what we are currently working on; to portray the atmosphere and massiveness of this ‘Dog town’.

Andrey Lukyanov found the way to deliver that idea via his film called ‘Ar Idardo, The Isle of Dogs’. The film has very few lines; the story of the animal shelter was mainly told through a visual medium. Andrey had been filming our daily routines for several months; the site, the shelter workers, the way we live and treat our animals. Maybe this video can give you insight into things you did not know before.

We thank you in advance for your contribution and support in helping us.
